Wavetraps Surf Guide
Wavetraps in West Coast South Island is a fairly exposed sandbar break that has fairly consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. The best wind direction is from the southeast with some shelter here from north winds. Handles onshore winds better than most spots Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell angle is from the west southwest. Waves at the sandbar tend to peel to the left. When it's working here, it can get crowded. Pollution may be a hazard at this break.
