Umina Point Surf Guide
Umina Point in Newcastle is a fairly exposed beach and reef break that has unreliable waves. Winter is the favoured time of year for surfing here. Ideal winds are from the northwest and there is no shelter here from cross shore breezes. Easily blown out by onshore winds Waves just as likely from local windswells as from distant groundswells and the optimum swell angle is from the south southeast. There is no beach break Good surf at all stages of the tide. Unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. Watch out for rocks.
