Makorori probably has the best collection of waves in such a small area anywhere in New Zealand and is more forgiving than Wainui, making it more popular with longboarders. Don't let the jagged rocks on the inside put you off because all the surfing happens out beyond them - but do bear them in mind when surfing that last broken wave of a session right back to the shore - it would be a shame to wreck your board at the end of a good day.
