Tombstones in Big Island is an exposed reef break that is often working. Winter is the optimum time of year for surfing here. The best wind direction is from the southwest. Groundswells are more common than windswells and the optimum swell angle is from the northeast. Both left and right reef breaks. The quality of the surf isn't affected by the tide. When it's working here, it can get crowded. Hazards include rocks, locals and sharks.
